Black Pandemics/Epidemiology of Disease

Description: Examines the roles of disease and medicine among continental African peoples and African-derived populations in the Americas and elsewhere in the African Diaspora. Emphasis is on such epidemic diseases as malaria, yellow fever, smallpox, and the current AIDS pandemic. Also explores the susceptibilities and resistances (both acquired and inherited) to certain diseases among particular populations within the African Diaspora.
Prerequisites: Sophomore standing or above.
